Potterrow Student Accommodation

Designed by LDN Architects and built by Ogilvie Construction the Potterow Student Accommodation project in Edinburgh is conveniently placed to serve the Edinburgh University student community with this new 146 bedroom facility. This development also provides a contemporary state of the art rehearsal space for Edinburgh Festival Theatre that will allow the Theatre to provide fully serviced rehearsal space on their current site. As the site is located on the border of the Old Town and Southside Conservation Areas of the City and within the World Heritage Site a number of restrictive massing, material and space planning issues had to be addressed.

1,500 m2 of Dryvit's Outsulation external wall insulation (EWI) system was installed directly onto a substrate constructed of concrete panels. As the building was in excess of 18 metres in height Dryvit's comprehensive BR135 and Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) fire approvals were instrumental in satisfying both building control and insurer requirements for the project, which allowed the cost effective expanded polystyrene (EPS) based Outsulation insulated render system to be specified for use on the scheme. Completed: 2014.

The Bloc, Watermill Lane, North London

The Bloc is and an urban regeneration scheme to house key workers in North London. The £25m urban regeneration residential scheme was designed by PCKO Architects for Origin Housing Ltd close to the North Middlesex Hospital in Edmonton, North London. The scheme provides 221 units, incorporating 128 units for key workers/intermediate rent, 65 social rented units and 28 shared ownership units, as well as a local office for Origin Housing Ltd.

The project was completed in three phases and incoprorates 7000m2 of Dryvit Outsulation Rail external wall insulation (EWI) system on lightweight steel frame and 2500m2 of Dryvit Outsulation EWI on concrete. The insulated render systems were specified to achieve the demanding u-value wall performance and Dryvit's Sandpebble Fine finish was selected to blend with other cladding materials to create the desired aesthetics for the scheme. As parts of the build were over 18 metres, Dryvit's comprehensive LPCB and BR135 fire accreditation was key to the specification of the Outsulation Rail and Outsulation EWI systems on the scheme. Completed 2013.

Port Glasgow Shared Campus - Port Glasgow

Built by Graham Construction this new build shared campus secondary school replaces Port Glasgow High School and St Stephens’s High School. The site will also integrate Lilybank Primary School and Glenburn ASN Schools, together with an Enterprise Centre, Community Resource Facilities and sports facilities. Leisure facilities include a Multi–Use Games Area (MUGA), fully equipped fitness suite and gymnasium and two all weather pitches. Originally specified as zinc cladding, the Dryvit Outsulation external wall insulation (EWI) system incorporating Dryvit's cost effective metal effect speciality finish, Reflectit, was utilised to clad to large feature pods within atrium spaces in the school. Completed in 2013.

Marlborough Road - Ashford, Middlesex

Located in Ashford, Middlesex, this Edwardian property has recently been transformed aesthetically and upgraded thermally following the installation of the Dryvit Drysulation external wall insulation (EWI) system.

With its solid wall construction, the property built in 1905 from London Stock 9" bricks was extremely inefficient which resulted in both high heating bills and localised areas of dampness. 100mm of high performance Low Lambda Dryvit LL expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation was adhesively and mechanically fixed to the substrate to upgrade the energy performance of the existing structure.

The Drysulation insulated render system was finished on standard wall areas with Dryvit FD PMR finish. To accentuate the Edwardian features of the property the Dryvit speciality finish Terraneo was installed to the feature bands at the top of the elevation and around the windows.

The strong thermal performance of the Drysulation system allows Specifiers to meet even the most stringent U value targets to satisfy carbon emission reduction goals for both new build and refurbishment projects, whilst the wide array of finish textures and colours provide total design flexibility. This system can also been installed in conjunction with governement funding and cashback schemes such as the Green Deal. 100m2 Drysulation installed. Completed 2014.

The Way - Beswick, Manchester

Dryvit’s Outsulation Rail external wall insulation (EWI) system has been installed on this major social housing development in Beswick, as part of the regeneration of east Manchester. The Way, designed by architects Bowker Sadler, was a £75m development built by housing regeneration specialist Lovell creating 550 new homes. Outsulation Rail insulated render was specified on two five-storey apartment blocks within the development. The apartment buildings required a high performance insulation to meet the strict U-value requirement and therefore our low lambda (LL) grade EPS board was incorporated within the EWI system to satisfy u-value targets. The system's drained cavity, also met with the NHBC requirements for framed substrates. Area 2,500m2. Completed 2008.
